Amazing Africa

Wherever you travel and whatever you experience, one is that you will never forget a trip to amazing Africa. With summer around the corner for us and South Africa entering its so-called winter period, African Pride and South African Airways has teamed up with some really great offers for travel between May and August 2007.

Cape Town is a gem of a city and is everyone's favourite. There is so much to see and do – from touring the spectacular scenery of the Cape Peninsula, to sampling the fine wines and shopping in then bustling V&A Waterfront complex. Prices start at just £898 per person with 5 nights at the delightful owner/managed Table Mountain Lodge.

For those wishing to go on an exciting safari – and do remember that the ‘winter' period is looked upon as the best time of the year with low vegetation, clear skies and little rainfall – the 8 day safari combines 3 nights at the superb Motswari Private Game Reserve bordering the Kruger National Park with 4 nights at the charming Rissington Inn, being the base from which to explore the stunning ‘Panorama Route' and further game viewing in the Kruger National Park.

Kenya: KCB Safari Rally Scores Poorly in Observers' Books

As a candidate event for the 2008 FIA World Championship, the 55th KCB Safari Rally scored poorly on the FIA observer's report which has put organisers on notice to shape up.

The Safari consistently scored either three or four on a scale of five and in some instances matters of safety scored a disappointing five points. But the sponsors KCB were commended for their input in all respects in an area which has no distinction.

But they did not disagree on the fundamental issue: that global warming, widely blamed on human emissions of greenhouse gases, is a reality. And that the impact will be enormous.

Medarex (MEDX) and PharmAthene Announce Pilot Study For Anthrax ...

Medarex, Inc. (Nasdaq: MEDX) and PharmAthene, Inc., a privately held biotechnology company dedicated to the development of biodefense countermeasures, announced that Valortim, a fully human monoclonal antibody product candidate being developed for the prevention and treatment of anthrax infection, has been shown to have a therapeutic effect in a new primate model of established inhalation anthrax infection. The new model, which is being developed at the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), seeks to improve on existing therapeutic models for anthrax by closely monitoring the disease process to establish the presence of anthrax bacteremia and determine the optimal window for therapeutic intervention. In the pilot study conducted at USAMRIID, adult African Green monkeys were exposed to aerosolized anthrax spores and blood samples were collected at regular intervals beginning 24 hours post-exposure.
