Luray Caverns - Naturally Beautiful

Considered to be one of the national landmarks of the United States, the Luray Caverns are found in Virginia, 90 miles from Washington DC. We came across these imposing caverns on our way to Virginia Safari Park with family and friends. The experience was unique and unforgettable.

The Luray Caverns are the largest caverns in Eastern USA. The creations are remarkable and when one looks at them it is difficult to believe that they were formed just one drip at a time. The earthy colors have originated from iron and clay soils dripping to the ground along with the calcium carbonate "drips."

When we entered the massive caverns, the first thought that came to my mind was who could have been the discoverers of these wonderful caverns? I'm sure from the time they were discovered, they have thrilled many a visitor with their natural beauty.

Zimbabwean driver wins Pearl of Africa Rally

Zimbabwe's Conrad Rautenbach defied the roughest route he has encountered this season to win the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally over the weekend.

The 22-year-old Zimbabwe with co-driver Peter Marsh finished in a time of 02:52.52, beating second placed Hideaki Miyoshi and Hakaru Ichino of Japan by about four minutes.

The junior world champion's victory effectively deposed Japanese Miyoshi from the top of the African Rally Championship (ARC) table.

"It feels nice winning such a difficult rally. The route was tricky and rougher than even the Kenya Safari Rally. The route was really hard on the car. It was hard to get the car to the finish," said Rautenbach.

Rautenbach has become the second foreign driver, after South African Johnny Gemmel's victory in 2002, to win the Pearl of Africa Rally in its nine years' history.

Jury out on pet food poisoning

A number of cases of dogs suffering renal failure have been reported in KwaZulu-Natal this week - since the latest scare about contaminated pet food - but veterinary surgeons say poisoning cannot be presumed without scientific evidence. They say renal failure can have many causes, including infections such as biliary, and at the moment there is no evidence from food tests or post mortems to confirm there has been contamination. But they warn pet owners to consult a veterinary surgeon if their dogs or cats show any signs of illness that may have resulted from eating contaminated food. The latest fears arose after the makers of Vets Choice foods, Royal Canin South Africa, decided to suspend sales of their products after reports of 19 confirmed cases of dogs with acute renal failure in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Big game in the Zulu Kingdom

Many people imagine that to experience the 'Big Five' you need to visit the likes of the Kruger Park! And whilst Kruger is undeniably a fantastic game experience, second time visitors to South Africa are quickly discovering that KwaZulu-Natal not only offers great culture, the biggest Mountain range in the country, year-round sunshine, and some of the best beaches - but also a wide range of safari options - from camping at £4/night to 5-star luxury safari lodges in private Big 5 reserves!

KwaZulu-Natal has always been known as an excellent beach destination – with some fascinating battlefields. But strangely enough, the fact that it boasts some of the best safari locations in Southern Africa is largely unknown. With its vast tracts of dramatic wilderness, The Zulu Kingdom is one of the most protected places on earth.
