87.3 percent of 2006 Nevada big game applications used the Internet

This is late March and it's time for Nevada big game hunters to be making serious plans for the many different big game hunts to be held later this year.

The application period for hunting tags is now open and will stay open until 5 p.m. on Apr. 16.

It is also time for me to tell you how to do so, like I did last year.

Nevada law requires a computerized drawing process for the issuance of hunting tags for its big game species, which include: Pronghorn antelope, mule deer, Rocky Mt. elk, plus Calif., desert and Rocky Mt. bighorn sheep and Rocky Mt. goat.

So, if you are an archer, black powder shooter or rifle hunter, with hopes of drawing one of those hard-to-get, hunting tags, draw a big red circle around Apr. 16, 2007.

That is the absolute deadline for RECEIVING applications for the up-coming hunts in Nevada.

On the afternoon of April 11, 2007, Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun held a briefing for Chinese and foreign journalists on the Darfur issue of Sudan and introduced his recent visit to Sudan as the special envoy of the Chinese government. Qin Gang, Deputy Director-General of the Information Department hosted the briefing.

Qin Gang: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Assistant Chinese Foreign Minister Zhai Jun visited Sudan as the special envoy of the Chinese government from April 6 to 9 and returned to Beijing yesterday afternoon. Today, we are very glad to invite him to meet with Chinese and foreign journalists and introduce his visit to Sudan.

Zhai Jun: Good afternoon.

Make way for butterflies!

Many rare and precious species are facing extinction. The homecoming butterflies usually pass over the Linnei freeway section, with a peak in numbers seen between 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. everyday from late March through earlier April.

In a single observation on April 3, 2005, researchers recorded some 11,500 Euploea butterflies per minute flying over the freeway section, equivalent to over one million in a single day. Many perished when they were dragged into strong turbulence caused by cars racing along the freeway.

About one third of the purple-spotted butterflies risk their lives at the end of winter by flying north along the 300km route, which cuts across the elevated road. Thousands of them are killed on the freeway each spring. For the first time, humans on the island are doing some good things for their co-inhabitants.

Briton's money going further

And those visiting South Africa are getting the best currency deals compared with a year ago, a survey by the Post Office found. South Africa was one of 12 countries surveyed now having better currency rates for Britons than this time last year. A total of 16 countries were surveyed. A year ago, Britons could get around 10.5 South African rand to the pound. But this has now increased nearly 21% to 13.27 rand to the pound. Increase There have also been big increases in favour of British tourists in the value of the Turkish lira (now 13.45% more lira than a year ago), the United Arab Emirates dirham (up 11.51%) and the US dollar (up 10.81%). Of the countries surveyed only Poland, the Czech Republic, Thailand and Hungary offered poorer exchange rates for Britons this year than last. The dip in the value of the pound against some Eastern European countries comes at a time when more flights are being offered to these destinations.
