Currently Adobe leads the market with its Flash player, which facilitates rich web content such as moving images, web-based video players and slideshow applications. But with the launch of Silverlight, which has been in production from 2005, Microsoft is hoping to enter the market. The program will feature as a plug-in for internet browsers such as Microsoft's internet explorer, Mozilla's Firefox and Apple's Safari. The main advantage of the program is that content can be played on any format from small mobile screen to high definition TVs without the need for recoding. Bob Muglia, senior vice president of the server and tools business at Microsoft, said: "Silverlight is the only solution in the market today that enables content creators to tap into the broad ecosystem for Windows Media technologies while taking the web's rich interactive application experience to new levels."Meanwhile, Adobe has revealed details of a novel new media player that allows users to view high quality videos both online and offline.

Punjab scraps contract labour system in MC's
LUDHIANA: Punjab Chief Minsiter Parkash Singh Badal Saturday announced to scrap the contract labour system in all the Municipal Corporations in the state for performing cleanliness and directed the Municipal Commissioners to initiate the process for regular recruitment of required Safari Sewaks on vacant posts. Badal was addressing a largely attended State Level function organized to observe 116th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Rattan Dr. B.R.Ambedkar here. Badal said that to fulfill the dreams of Dr. B R Ambedkar of the upliftment of weaker sections/ Dalits, excellent education facilities to the brilliant students belonging to down trodden families would be the top priority of his Govt. under which free education up to University levels for the poor students would be provided.
Poaching hearing Monday
GRANTS The parties involved in the Kurt Darner poaching case trial will be in court Monday, April 23.
A grand jury in Cibola County indicted Darner and his wife, Paula, in 2006 on multiple felony and misdemeanor counts.
"We are primarily getting together in court for what is called a status conference, where the parties show where they are as far as evidence gathering in the case is concerned so it can be determined when to proceed to trial," Deputy DA Randall Collins said.
When Darner does go to trail and if he is convicted of all nine felony charges lodged against him, he could face maximum penalties of up to 33 years in prison.
His wife, if convicted, could face up to 24 years in prison on the six felony counts.
At the time of the indictment, Cibola County District Attorney Lemuel Martinez said his office took the case seriously.
