Otters taking center stage at Monterey Bay Aquarium
Why it's cool: These otters love to play. The stars are six rarely-seen African spotted-neck otters on loan from the San Diego Zoo and four Asian small-clawed otters from the Singapore Zoo. The spotted-neck otters love to follow an arm or a sleeve along the tank's glass, corkscrewing and spinning all the way. What kids like: Where to start. There are the otters,'nuf said. There's a small slide that lets kids mimic an otter's playful life. A stamp room provides children with a blank wetlands landscape and lets them populate it by visiting various stations with rubber stamps and ink pads. Interspersed are smaller displays of colorful tropical fish, frogs and reptiles, such as the aptly named elephantnose fish and the unique archerfish, which shoots bugs off plants up to four feet away with a squirt of water.
