| Jetboating across the world
Dragging jet boats halfway across the world in containers is not most peoples idea of a relaxing holiday. Its pretty costly, for one thing. But the adventurous spirit runs deep for Ashburtons Duncan Storrier and the handful of other jet boaters really passionate about the sport. That passion has taken them halfway across the world and back twice, and this time, New Zealanders will get to experience it on the small screen. Grant Shimmin caught up with Storrier and some of his fellow adventurers. Mention jet boating and for most people you conjure up visions of super-fast craft racing down relatively calm rivers with towering, rocky buttresses alongside, which the driver seems intent on sticking you into on a fairly regular basis only to show just how manoeuvrable and nimble the craft is by pulling well clear of any danger, seemingly just split seconds from disaster.
Kenya: East Africans May Be Stripped of the Kikoi
Kenyan activists are fighting to retain cultural designs that have been developed in East Africa but are being patented by companies in rich countries. After losing the kiondo basket trademark to Japan, the popular kikoi fabric design is currently at risk of being patented by a British company. Cooperation for Fair Trade in Africa (COFTA), a Nairobi-based body of nongovernmental organisations, is taking on the Kikoy Company UK which has applied for registration as the sole trademark owner of kikoi. .
Journey teaches lessons not found in any book
What five Grade 11 students from Royal St. George's College and their teacher brought home from their extraordinary March Break trip was a new view of the world and themselves. And the lessons they learned - while ascending the world's highest freestanding mountain and travelling across Nairobi and into Kenya to help build a school - can't be found between the covers of a book. The three-week journey of self-discovery, part of the downtown Toronto school's global outreach, began in Tanzania with a gruelling test of endurance. For Thomas Pepper, reaching Kilimanjaro's Gilman's Point at 5,681 metres after five days of trekking - the last at night on treacherous, icy scree trails - was an unforgettable adventure. Though the trekkers were all desperately fighting to breathe and physically spent, Pepper had high hopes of reaching the summit Uhuru at 5,895 metres.

Golden Gai time for Slipper day
This filly is capable of winning the Slipper after a good win in the Reisling Stakes. Punters will have their heart in their mouth, hoping she does not get distracted at the barrier. Bookies have to lay the filly, however everything has fallen into place at the right time. 10. DOWNHILL RACER (10) D.Hayes/Z.Purton - $26This filly reaffirmed the strength of the Melbourne form when she pulled out all the stops to win the Magic Night at Rosehill last Saturday. David Hayes does not rate her the top chance from his representatives which is good enough for me. Pass. 11. CHINCHILLA ROSE (12) S.Ryan/S.Katsidis - $16All Queensland will be cheering for the only undefeated galloper coming into this year's event.
